IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL WHITE

Parents and Guardians,
It’s really hard to believe that we are already a month into the school year! I don’t want to jinx it, but I hope it feels like fall might actually be in the air. I hope you had a great Labor Day weekend, enjoyed some time off, and spent some time with your Apollo students. With 155 days of school left, it is flying by!
With that being said, I want to give you a few things to think about and some updates on where we are.
Please check your student’s grades. Whether that is through ParentVUE or having your student show you their StudentVUE account, please ask questions about the grades they have and why they have them. Then, please follow up with their teachers.
One of the things I really want to improve at Apollo this year is our communication between home and school. We all want the same thing — what is best for your student. We want to be proactive and fix problems before it is too late. We are still early in the first quarter, and this is the perfect time to make sure our students are on the right track. Teachers will be communicating with you through grade reports or letting you know when improvements are needed. We also want our students to be part of that communication between home and school. I think it is great practice for students to communicate with their parents, but it is also important to verify that information so we can all make sure your student is successful.
Fall sports are up and running! Our Assistant Principal of Operations and Athletics, Mrs. Tiffany Fain, sends out the weekly schedule for games on the Apollo campus. One of the biggest changes from last year is our clear bag policy. Please review this policy.
Please come out and support our athletes in football, swim, cross country, volleyball, golf and, of course, our amazing cheerleaders. Band is returning a strong group from last year’s state-qualifying run. They play at all of our home football games and many festivals in the next couple of months. Chess, performing arts, and choir all have concerts and events coming up over the next few weeks. Please check our calendar and come out to see a show. You will not be disappointed! Our students love seeing our community supporting them, and it is always fun to watch our young Hawks experience success and learn how to handle adversity as they build life skills for the future.
As I close this month’s recap and we look forward to September, attendance is still very important. Please make sure your students are getting to school on time and attending school consistently. Strong attendance is one of the biggest reasons students are successful in their classes. When students miss more than five days in a semester, it can have a big impact on their grades. Please reinforce the importance of attendance with your students.
I look forward to seeing you on our campus and at our events. Please let us know if you have any questions or if there is anything we can do to support your student and help them have an awesome high school experience.
Thank you for choosing to send your students to Apollo High School. Have a great day, and as always…
