Meet our new SRO

Apollo is pleased to welcome our new Student Resource Officer James Calderon.  Officer Calderon has been with the Glendale Police Department for twelve years. Prior to his service with GPD, he began his career with the Richmond, Virginia Police Department. During his time served with both departments, he has received a Life-Saving Award, a Purple Heart, and Officer of the Month.

Officer Calderon has participated in many community outreach events in his community's, schools and churches. He has participated in national outreach programs with the Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation (JDRF) to create awareness of the disease and how he lives with it in his own life and career.

He began his career as a School Resource Officer in 2011 and has served several schools in the Deer Valley Unified School District. During this time as an SRO, he has been a direct mentor for many newly diagnosed diabetics. He has also held the title of Field Training Officer for five years and stepped down from that position to become the full time SRO at Mountain Ridge high School. He has spent most of his SRO career at Mountain Ridge High school, but he is very excited to start this new chapter at Apollo High School.
