Hello! My name is Officer James Calderon and I am the School Resource Officer at Apollo. I am looking forward to another successful and safe year here and would like to take an opportunity to address some issues for parents of current or potential teen drivers. The following are some explanations of the laws that if violated could have a negative impact on our students and families. These have been provided for educational purposes.

• A parent or guardian who allows a minor to drive a vehicle without a license is GUILTY of a Class 2 Misdemeanor (ARS 28-3474).
• The owner of a vehicle who allows a minor without a license to drive will be held responsible for any monetary damages caused by the driver and could be civilly liable (ARS 28-3163).
• When a driver is stopped and has never been issued a driver’s license or permit the vehicle may be impounded for 30 days (ARS 28-3511).

Instruction Permit Requirement
• Students driving on a permit would not be able to drive classmates to school without someone licensed and at least 21 years old sitting beside them (ARS 28-3154).
• A permit is NOT a license.
• After at least six months of having an instructional permit drivers may apply for a graduated license, which includes taking a road test.

It has become even easier for teens to obtain their permit at the age of 15 years 6 months, the test can now be taken at home online. For more information please visit:
