Prince Amukamara

PRINCE AMUKAMARA
Retirement of Apollo Football Jersey # 21
Friday, October 24, 2014

Born the only son – with 5 sisters – of Chrystie and Romanus Amukamara, Prince came to Apollo High School in 2003.  Prince competed and excelled in 3 sports during his time here; playing on 3 state champion basketball teams with Coach Mark Nold, setting track and field records in sprints and jumps as well as winning the 2007 state 100 and 200 meter dash championships with Coaches Tim Poole and Dave Devlin.

And of course football.  Prince finished his career with over 4000 all-purpose yards including 2106 rushing yards his senior year; being named the big school Player of the Year in Arizona.  Prince also found time to attend GCC concurrently through their ACE Plus program, taking college classes while in high school.

Attending college at Nebraska he was introduced to the cornerback position and was named Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 and 1st Team All-American.  Perhaps most impressive is that he also graduated in just 3 ½ years.

Drafted in the 1st round by the New York Giants in 2011, Prince was part of the Super Bowl winning team in his rookie season.

Rapidly gaining a global reputation for his stellar character and unflappable values – things we here in Glendale have always been aware of – Prince receives accolades and awards for his leadership and generosity.

On behalf of the Apollo High School Family, I would like to thank Prince for his support of Apollo as we wish him and his wife Pilar continued success and happiness.

Ladies and gentlemen, Apollo supporters, I am personally honored to introduce one of the finest gentlemen I have ever had the privilege of knowing…Mr. Prince Amukamara.

Here to receive his retired jersey from Principal Brooke Parsons, John Pierzchala Athletic Director, and Head Football Coach Zack Threadgill.

Introduction by Mr. Dave Devlin, the voice of Apollo Football

We are honored to retire Prince Amukamara's jersey tonight, Friday October 24th.

Prince was a three sport star at Apollo, an All-American at Nebraska and a 1st round draft pick by the New York Giants.

As great an athlete that he is, Prince is even a better person. He is an outstanding role model for the students at Apollo because of how he lives his life off the field. His success as an athlete is a direct result of his work ethic, discipline and self-control.

I am proud to have coached him and my wife Shannon and I are proud to call Prince and his wife Pilar friends.
