Cross Country: There will be a mandatory cross-country meeting for returning runners and for anyone interested in running cross country. The meeting will start at 2:45 in room 908

Attention Freshmen! The Link Crew is hosting its last event of the year, Lemons to Lemonade! Culinary: Congratulations to the combined culinary teams from Apollo and Glendale high school where they competed in Orlando at Cook Around the World! They swept their division and earned 4 awards: 2nd place best main dish, 2nd place best side dish, the Creativity award and Judges award. They competed against 55 schools from across the country, the largest event yet! Nice work, Apollo-now onto Nationals in San Diego this summer!

eSports: Congratulations to the Apollo Super Smash Brothers eSports team for beating Millennium in the fifth round of the state playoffs yesterday and landing a spot in the state finals on Saturday! This is only our second year of eSports and our team of Hakeem Disu, Fabian Reyes Romero, and Matthew Fimbrez-Watson is taking it all the way to state! Good luck on Saturday!

BOYS SOCCER: All returning and anyone looking to join the boys soccer program for the next season, Coach BJ will be holding a meeting in the big hawk Wednesday after school at 3:20pm. Attendance is mandatory from all returning players, from all 3 levels.

Apollo Key Club: Key Clubbers don't forget to fill out the Board Member application form if you are interested in being a part of the board for next school year! Remember current seniors can't apply, but everyone else is welcome to. The form closes Thursday, April 28th at 3:00pm.

Career Center: ASU will be having a NEXT STEPS meeting today during both lunches in the Career Center. New applicants and already admitted students can attend to get information from Alexi. College Knowing and Going is having their Senior Day today right after school in the Big Hawk. Come get information about Financial Aid, Scholarship Opportunities, as well as DACA and Undocumented resources for those wanting to continue with post secondary education.

Apollo Dance: Congratulations to our beautiful and talented dancer, Anabelen Hurtado, for being a state recipient of the AZDEO’s Artistic Merit, Leadership, and Academic Award for 2022! We are so proud of her. Ana had to create and perform a solo, compose 2 essays and a dance resume, and much more to earn this achievement! Come see her next week at our Soring Dance Show, May 4-7.

Apollo Key Club: Key Club members you have until Thursday, April 28th to apply for a Board Member position. The application will be closed at 3:00pm Thursday, so please get the application turned in before then.

ESPORTS: Apollo has three teams in the state playoffs this year. Today, two Super Smash Brothers teams compete, and on Wednesday, the first ever Mario Kart team competes to move into the second round.

Clothing Closet: Attention students - we have an excess of very nice, new, and near-new, size 3X women's clothing in our free clothing closet. Everything is free and recycling is good for the planet.

Track and Field: Good morning, Hawks. This weekend Apollo hosted the 12 Annual Hal Anders Invitational. A big thank you goes out for the NJROTC, as well as the track athletes for their help at the meet. Apollo’s top medal winners were:

· Myricle Moffett with a total of 4 medals, two of those medals were first place in the 100- and 200-meter dash

· Angel Ortiz with a total of 3 medals, two second place medals in the 800- and 1600-meter run

Girls Tennis: Our bus will leave tomorrow at 2 pm for the Maricopa match! Don’t be late!

Fiber Arts club: Hi Apollo! We would like to announce the start of our official club! All those interested in crochet, sewing, knitting, and other fabric activities-- no matter your experience, skill level, and learning speed-- are welcome! We're a fluctuating group at the moment, but we've planned activities around it, and we're holding a meeting this Monday, after school in room 205! Currently our project plans are majorly focused on using our supplies and finished items as charity donations, including pieces like beanies, scarves, plushies, etc. Once again everyone is welcome, and we highly encourage even those who are new and skeptical to join as It can be a lovely group learning experience for all those who have and who will join.

ACT Question: Congratulations to Ayslin Diaz, our final ACT Question of the Day Winner, and since she got the correct answer, she will win two prizes - come pick them up from the front office, Ayslin! Good luck to everyone on the tests!

FCCLA ECE: Congratulations to Apollo's ECE-10 students competed in Tucson at the FCCLA state leadership conference. Alexa Cervantes earned a silver medal in the Job Interview event, three teams competed in the Focus On Children Event and all earned gold medals, congrats to Team 1 Alexsia Leon and Desiree Martinez, Team 2 Mariafernanda Bernabe, Shannara Reyes and Ameera Asse and Team 3 Evelyn Estrada, Natalie Coss and Hayley Olsen. Last but not least, Anna Barnes competed in Early Child Education Event, earned a gold medal, and qualified for the National Leadership Conference in San Diego this summer. Way to go Ladies-Please congratulate them when you see them.

FCCLA Culinary: Congratulations to Apollo's culinary arts team who competed in Tucson for this year's FCCLA state leadership conference. Julie Cerda and Jenny Lee won gold, Madi Ely won silver and Alondra Cabrera, Noemi Bilyk and Stacy Ortega won bronze. Julie will be traveling to San Diego this summer to represent the state of Az in the Baking and Pastry competition. She was also awarded a scholarship to the Culinary Institute of America for placing 1st in state out of 42 competitors. Nice work, ladies!

eSports: The Fall eSports regular season has ended, and two of our teams qualified for playoffs. Our Super Smash Brothers team is seeded 4th in the state with a 7-1 record and our Rocket League team clinched a hard-fought victory yesterday to make it in to the playoffs ranked 20th.

Cross County: The boys' and girls' cross-country teams ran well on Friday at the Nike Desert Twilight Invitational. The boys were led by Angel Ortiz and Carter Jaques, while the girls were led by Natalie Rosa and Catalina Quintero. Angel placed 24th out of 254 runners. The teams will race again this Saturday at the state's longest running cross country invitational, the Thunderbird Invitational…yes, it is so old that Coach McCarthy raced in it back in the 80’s.
