Last week, 5 Early Childhood Education students competed in Tucson against schools from around the state, with everyone earning a medal (1 gold and 4 silver), additionally Paige Smith and Nallely Nava qualified to compete at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, CA this summer. Congratulations to all the girls, hard work, well done!!

Special shout out to Ryan Breathett for not only scoring 1st place/Gold Medal in his event, but also earning a PERFECT score on the rubric! Also, special shout out to Karla Moncada Garcia and Priscilla Rodriguez for winning their respected events and will be traveling to Anaheim to represent the state of Arizona for this year's FCCLA Nationals!

Congratulations goes out to Maire Grimes, Inai Luevano Palomera, and Jordyn Lugo for being awarded as the 2019 recipients of the Arizona Artistic Merit, Leadership, and Academic Achievement Award in dance. These young ladies are not only talented and passionate dancers, but strong leaders of Apollo. We are so proud of their hard work and dedication to the Apollo dance program.

Robotics
Congratulations to the robotics team for competing in their first ever competition the week before spring break. During the three day competition, the team encountered many obstacles, including a dead robot. But the team persevered and ended the tournament in the middle of the 53 teams. The next competition will be next week at GCU. Wish the team members much luck. The robotics team will be meeting after school in room 906. All members must attend.

Thank you Apollo. Together we raised $1,200 towards the Yuda Bands initiative to help send kids to school in Zimbabwe, Africa. Your purchases also supported the Guatemalan workers who made the Yuda Bands. From all of us in DECA, we thank you for purchasing a band to help others. Together we made a difference.

As you guys have noticed by now, Apollo is pushing students to write letters to Santa. “Why” you might ask, well, the Make a Wish Foundation and Macy’s have partnered up to help make an ill child’s wish come true. With your help, we can raise up to one million dollars! All you have to do is write a letter (or nine) to Santa and drop if off in the mailbox located in the middle of campus. November is National Gratitude Month and we want you to remember that when things are hard, a little bit of gratitude goes a long way. We are thankful for each you. We are also thankful as a school community to partner with Teen Lifeline so we can provide you this simple message: “If you feel like giving up, please don’t. There is help and there is hope.”
We know this time of year can be stressful. If you are struggling or are worried about a friend, please reach out and talk to someone. Teachers, counselors, social worker, and staff are here if you need to talk. Don’t forget that Teen Lifeline is just a call away as well. This connection of hope has been placed on the back of your school ID as a reminder that you’re not alone.

The cross country teams did a splendid job yesterday. The boys defeated Dysart, La Joya, Agua Fria and Centennial. Saul Valdez, Jose Navarro, and David Ordaz placed first, second and third in the race. On the girls’ side, Sarae Morales was third and Ti’Zhona Bundy was 8th. Great Job Hawks.

You can register at the Moon Valley Bookstore through Mrs. Martin cash or check and classes will begin on Saturday September 8th from 8-12.  You must have a valid drivers permit or drivers license along with a  school ID.  You are allowed to register up until next Friday September 7th. 

 

Accuplacer Test

 

The math accuplacer will be held today in the media center starting promptly 2:45pm. Those students who are not on time at the start of the exam will have to take it at the GCC dual enrollment office.

 

Gamer’s Club

If you play Rocket League, the Apollo Gamers Club wants you.  We will be fielding an e-sports team and are looking for players!  Come to the media center after school today if you are interested in joining Apollo's inaugural Rocket League teams!

 

College Club

The College Club is back! SENIORS! Come to the College Club Meeting in the Big Hawk conference room 300 at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday. We will be looking at where you are and where you should be if your post secondary plans include any type of education.
