Hospitality program celebrates recent successes

Jocelyne Gonzalez is a CCAP Top 10 Junior to represent Apollo Hospitality/Culinary in the next year.  She has recently worked with the nation’s top chefs.  She is planning on attending a competition called Cook Around the World at Disney world at the end of the month and works at the Phoenix midtown farmers market with CCAP (Careers through Culinary Arts Program)


First place ProStart winners Apollo seniors Jessica Makhol and Jacky Castaneda competed against 7 other schools in a management competition similar to Shark Tank.  These ladies will represent the state of Arizona at the National competition at the end of the month in Providence, RI.

Also in that same competition was Miranda Metcalf and Cameron Williams that won 3rd in the Management competition.


The NRAEF ProStart National Educator of Excellence Awards (EEA) recognize educators who demonstrate excellence in the classroom and passion, commitment and creativity in all aspects of the ProStart program to help their students make the most of the opportunities that ProStart offers. Their stories inspire ProStart educators and supporters across the globe. This award is in association with the National Restaurant Association.

Hospitality teacher Kristy Clarke was nominated by her students, as well as the state ProStart State director.  She will now be honored at an awards dinner in Chicago, IL, in May.

Apollo Hospitality recently competed at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Tucson and out of the 12 students that competed in Various events, they have seven going to Nationals in June to represent Arizona in Atlanta GA. Seniors Rogelio Apodaca and Gabi Farias competing in Environmental Ambassadors. Sophomores Jamilet Lemus and Evelyn Paredes, and junior Jocelyne Gonzalez competing in Sports Nutrition. Kris Rivera, sophomore, competing in Nutrition and Wellness.  Freshmen Gaby Flores competing in Life Event Planning.
