Classroom Rules
For the safety and learning of each student, all students will follow the School and District Rules that are explained in the Student Handbook as well as my classroom rules, which are as follows:
1.       Be respectful of yourself, others, and the class/school environment.
2.     Stay on topic during the entire class period.
3.     Work quietly, both individually and when working with others.
4.     Follow directions the first time they are given.

Classroom Consequences
If the student breaks the classroom rules, he/she will receive a:
1.       Conference with the teacher
2.     Detention/Parent Contact
3.     Administrative Referral

Grading Scale
As students complete their coursework throughout the year, they will receive a grade from the following scale:

1 = 100-90%          2= 89-80%            3 = 79-70%
4 = 69-60%           5 = 60-0%

Assignments include classwork, homework, quizzes, and tests. Each assignment is weighted according to the following scale:

Bell Work = 10%
Class and Homework – 30%
Tests/Essays/Projects = 60%

Make-Up Work Policy
Students will be held accountable for making up work that they miss when they are absent. Make-up work is available in several ways. First, the Absent Folder with the bellwork and assignments for each day is in the classroom for the students to access. Second, they may ask for assignments or help directly from me before and after school and during Learning Center. Students have three days from the day they are absent (or for each day they are absent) to turn in make-up work.

Late Work
Late work is accepted but with a loss in point value. For each day the work is late, the letter grade decreases a full grade. For instance, an assignment one day late will receive a grade no higher than a B.

Attendance
Success in a class is often directly linked to attendance. Students who are not in class on time will be put in the sweeps room and will receive an absence for that hour. Loss of credit results after 12 absences.

Materials
Students will need the following materials EACH DAY:
1.       Pencil/pen
2.     Folder or notebook
3.     Paperwork/book for the current unit

Students are required to have a folder for this course, complete with the following sections:
1.       Bellwork
2.     Notes
3.     Grammar
4.     Writing
5.     Literature
6.     Journal

Test Taking Procedures
For the security of test materials and out of respect to other test takers, during a quiz or a test, students must keep their eyes on their own tests or the front board. Additionally, there is no talking and no other materials are allowed out during a test.

Learning Center
Learning Center is available every Wednesday morning for students to make up or get missing assignments, to take quizzes or tests, or to receive individual help. Class periods throughout the day are 40 minutes in length to accommodate for a 50 minute Learning Center period. The schedule for Learning Center is as follows:
