Homework Guidelines

Learning a foreign language in the classroom is a difficult task due to the limited amount of time available to the student to practice the target language and the material covered. Therefore, it is essential that the student review the vocabulary on a daily basis in order to retain language skills. Homework is practice, not a test. Even if you aren’t sure you’re doing it right….DO IT! You earn credit for assignments done to the best of your ability and on time.
       1. Schedule your homework time into your daily activities.
        2. Do your own work. Copying does not equal learning.
3. All work must be neat and legible.
4. All assignments must be complete before coming to class.
5. All assignments are due at the beginning of the next class period unless otherwise specified.
6. Students will not be released from class to obtain work from a friend, car, previous class, etc.
Points for homework assignments are:
10 points – each assignment completed before entering class OR assignments completed after being absent
5 points – assignments finished late in class OR late assignments within one week
0 points – assignments not done or that are copied

 Required Materials
You are responsible for bringing your own materials. Every day you are responsible to come to class with:
  • pencil
  • blue or black pen
  • paper
  • 3-ring note book
  • Avancemos workbook
The teacher will NOT provide materials for you.
You are responsible for material written on the board or overhead and/or covered orally in class.
Your notebook may be checked for a grade.
After entering the classroom you are not allowed to leave the room for any forgotten materials.
All quizzes and tests will be written in blue or black pen or they will not be graded.

Classroom Behavior

It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to behave in a way that shows RESPECT for:
Yourself:
· Be intellectually honest
·  Do quality work
·  Speak up if you have concerns or needs
·  Set appropriate boundaries
Others:
· Honor diversity
·  Honor space by keeping hands, feel & objects to yourself
Time:
· Honor yours, mine, and ours

Property:
· Take care of things (whether they belong to you, to your neighbor, to me, or to our school)
Rules:
· Know the rules for both our school and our Spanish class:
+Stay in your seat
+ Listen & follow directions
+ Speak when it is your turn
+ Use appropriate language
+Personal grooming, note writing & doing other work are not acceptable
The Environment:
· Reduce, reuse, recycle
· Keep your table/desk and surrounding area clean.

CONSEQUENCES:
When these rules are not followed by the student, s/he will be given the following consequences:
Verbal warning                                                                                                Teacher/student conference and/or detention
Parent phone call
Severe or repeated behavior problems will result in an automatic detention or direct referral to the administrator.

 Make-up Work

Students who are not in class are responsible for finding out what they have missed and for making up the work. It is the student’s responsibility, not the teacher’s. All work must be handed in to the teacher or the student will not receive credit for the assignment.
All quizzes and tests will be made up during a scheduled learning center and not during class time.
The consequences for not attending the scheduled learning center will be a ZERO for that particular test or quiz.

Check your grade !

  • Grades are updated on a weekly basis and are available in the classroom or on Infinite Campus.
  • M = missing work due to an absence or a valid reason. Work needs to be made up by the end of the week or it becomes a zero.
  • 0 = work was not done because the student chose not to do it. This can not be made up.

 Tests Procedures:

Quizzes or tests are NOT announced ahead of time because students are tested on long-term memory. The following behavior is expected when taking a quiz or a test:
  • Write in blue or black pen only
  • All materials are put away in backpacks
  • Eyes placed only on your own paper
  • Raise your hand if you need help
  • NO communication of any kind with others
Any form of test-taking violations will result in a zero (0) for that grade and an automatic U (Unsatisfactory) in citizenship for that grading period on the report card. Repeated incidents of test-taking violations will be reported to the administrators.

Grades:

Grades will be given at the end of each quarter. The grading categories may include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
  •  Participation
  •  Notebook
  •  Classwork
  •  Homework
  •  Oral presentations
  •  Reports
  •  Quizzes / Tests
  •  District Assessment
A student’s total points earned will equal their grade. The semester grade will be based on:
1st quarter …...40%
2nd quarter …...40%
Exam …………..20%

Total point percentages are :
90 – 100% = 1
80 – 89% = 2
70 - 79% = 3
65 - 69% = 4
64% and below = 5
