Rules and Regulations

Uniform Requirements:

The Physical Education Uniform consists of the following:

  1. The Physical Education/ Systematic Conditioning Shirt (available for purchase at the bookstore).
  2. Solid blue or black shorts (no stripes) with a 9 inch inseam, no longer than the knees.
  3. Athletic socks
  4. Athletic tennis shoes (no platform boots or slip on shoes are allowed).
  5. Solid blue, black or grey sweatpants and/or sweatshirt for cold weather when needed.

 

ANY variation (cutting, writing or coloring) from the above uniform will be counted as a non-dress. Hats are not allowed during ANY Physical Education class.

 

Loaner uniforms will be available daily to rent for .50 cents per item and a valid school I.D. card.

 

ALL STUDENTS WHO PARTICIPATE IN ANY PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASS WILL BE EXPECTED TO REMOVE ALL JEWELRY/BODY PIERCING ADORNMENT FROM THEIR BODIES PRIOR TO THE START OF CLASS ACTIVITY. EARRING STUDS, WORN ON THE EARS, ARE THE ONLY EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE. THIS RULE HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED TO PROTECT THE SAFETY AND WELFARE OF OUR STUDENTS.

 

Grading Policies:

Student’s grades will be based on the following conditions:

  1. Participation- Participation grading is a must for all Physical Education classes. This grade reflects the effort given by the student during that grading period. This grade weighs heavily on a students attempt rather than the success of various skills.
  2. Work Ethic- Warm up laps will be run daily. Students are expected to complete the laps within the allotted time the instructor allows.
  3. Citizenship- Any behavior your Physical Education teacher deems necessary including but not limited to, inappropriate gestures, comments or actions, inappropriate language, disrespect, horse play, etc. will result in the loss of citizenship points.
  4. Written work - and tests including but not limited to PBA and workout cards, may be given at any time during Physical Education class. Each student is responsible for making up any missed work.

 

Non Dress Policy

  1. First violation results in a write up, one hour detention, and a conference with the student.
  2. Second violation results in a full letter grade drop, a write up that will be sent home and requires a parent signature and one hour detention.
  3. Third violation results in an additional full letter grade drop, a write up, a phone call home or letter sent home and a one hour detention.
  4. Fourth violation results in an additional full letter grade drop, a write up that will be referred to the dean of students for further disciplinary action.
  5. Fifth violation results in an additional full letter grade drop, a write up that will be referred to the dean of students and removal/loss of credit from the class.

 

NON DRESSES MAY NOT BE MADE UP

 

Absence Makeup

Absences may be made up the following ways:

  1. Read an article that is sport or health related, and write a full page summary. Each summary written is good for one absence makeup.

 

  1. Attend a school function such as an athletic event or fine arts performance and give a detailed full page summary of the event. The activity may not be one you are participating in.

 

YOUR GRADE WILL BE AFFECTED IF YOU DO NOT MAKEUP ABSENCES

 

Tardy

The Physical Education department will be enforcing the tardie policy.

 

  1. All Physical Education students will be expected to be in the gymnasium prior to the tardy bell.
  2. Only students with a pass will be permitted into the gym after the tardy bell rings.
  3. If you are tardy, you will be expected to dress out before going to the attendance office.
  4. If you are tardy after the allotted dress-out time, go immediately to attendance office, get pass and return to class.
  5. You will still be expected to participate in your school clothes.

 

FOOD OR DRINK WILL NOT BE PERMITTED IN THE GYMS OR LOCKEROOMS AT ANY TIME (bottled water is allowed)

 

Cell Phone Policy

Cell phones are not permitted during any Physical Education class. The Physical Education instructor may confiscate a student’s phone at any time during class. This includes times when the student is in the locker room or while waiting for the bell to ring. If there is an emergency and you need to make a phone call, please see your instructor.

 

Locker Room Policies

1.      Locks will be issued to each student at the beginning of the year. The lock belongs to the school and the student must turn the lock in at the end of the school year.

2.      If the lock is lost due to theft or student irresponsibility it is the student’s job to tell their instructor. A new lock must be purchased through the bookstore at the cost of five dollars if the lock is not found.

3.      NO ONE will be allowed to place a lock that is not school issued on their locker. If a lock is put on that is not school issued it will be removed.

4.       Please use your lockers to lock up any valuables including backpacks and clothing.

5.      Inappropriate behavior may result in loss of locker privileges.

 

THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ITEMS THAT ARE LOST OR STOLEN

 

Injuries in Class

Any person injured during class time needs to report the injury to their instructor. Under no circumstances should you wait to report even a minor injury. Loss of insurance coverage may apply to unreported injuries.

 

Illness or Injury Excuse

Students unable to participate due to illness or injury must present a note from their parents to their teacher. If the injury or illness will require the student to be inactive for more than three consecutive days then a doctor’s note is required. The student must take the Physicians note to the Apollo Nurse from 7:30-8:00 a.m. The Nurse will not accept a note after this time. The Nurse will issue a non participation or a limited participation pass, if necessary. Students will be expected to dress out and participate in an alternate activity even though they are excused.
